monday the 22nd of March at 3:30pm we have our ‘Happy Days’ group presenting a show featuring a signing choir, chat, and lots of tea, all made by the good people of Netherly.

Thursday the 25th at 3:30pm carers from Local Solutions present ‘Lion Taming’ featuring interviews, chat, and film about life as a carer.

tuesday the 30th of March at 3:30pm our Still Waters group present a show featuring music, poetry, and the unusual, putting the culture in multi-cultural.

The Irish famine saw thousands of men, women and children arrive in Liverpool. For many it was a short stay as they travelled to the ‘new world’. Their stories are not forgotten; their voices can still be heard.

This film will be screened in the Maritime Museum throughout the summer until September.

This film will be part of an exhibition to be launched in Stavanger in 2008. As part of the ‘Youth and Migration’ project young people from all over Europe will gather in Norway to explore their diverse cultures.
The ‘Youth and Migration’ international project is supported by National Museums Liverpool and Liverpool Culture Company in collaboration with the ‘Norwegian Emigration Center’ in Stavanger.

Video Production for 16 – 18 year olds.
Come to TTV on this full time course and learn how to plan, shoot and edit a range of video styles through projects and working alongside professionals. If you complete the course you will have the opportunity to achieve the ncfe Certificate in Video Production (level 2).

Community Video Production for 14 – 18 year olds.
If you belong to a youth or community group in Liverpool or if you work in one you can come along with your group for one evening a week and learn how to plan, shoot and edit videos.

Staffing?
Liverpool Community College employs 2 full time video production tutors on the project and 1 full time basic skills tutor. In addition there is 1 full time learning mentor, 2 technical staff, 1 administrator, 1 project manager and 1 assistant project manager. All learners on the project will benefit from the extensive provision of Student Services and facilities offered by Liverpool Community College across the city.

How do young people get onto the project?
Alternative curriculum providers, learning mentors and teachers in schools; educationalists working in other projects or any agency within Liverpool working with young people can contact the project directly for more information. 16 – 18 year olds can contact us independently. What is Toxteth TV?
We provide a Media production resource where young people aged 14- 18 years can train alongside Professional Production Companies in a fully accessible facility in Windsor Street. The building houses a managed workspace in one half and the other is dedicated space for the provision of video production training and includes a full size and professionally equipped studio space.

Who is it for?
The training is aimed at young people who are at risk of disengagement from education and caters for school children aged 14-16 years and young people aged 16- 18. The learning is delivered through exciting hands on video projects which aim to reengage young people into learning as well as providing an introduction to the skills needed to create short video programmes.

What will they be doing?
The project offers 14 -16 year olds one day a week short courses where they will be making either a pop promo, a soap type drama or a documentary video. They will work as a team to design, plan, shoot and edit short videos using the extensive resources at Toxteth TV. The courses will last approximately 11 weeks each and any learner that completes will have a level 1 qualification validated by Liverpool Community College.

For 16-18 year olds there is a full time course that offers the same project based experience along with the opportunity to achieve a level 2 NCFE Video Production qualification. We also offer daylong tasters for both age groups.

The emphasis is on becoming involved in an enjoyable and stimulating production experience which will open up pathways and possibilities for further learning either within video production or any other area of learning offered within the city.

Mission: Toxteth TV through education, training & small business support will help foster a positive environment for the development of individuals and businesses.

What is Toxteth TV?
In association with Liverpool Community College we provide training and education for young people giving them skills that can lead to a number of progression routes both in education and potentially into employment.  We also provide office space for small media companies, community organisations and SMEs, aswell as providing facilities such as TV studio, training rooms and professional film equipment for hire. Our community film and arts work is extensive working with a range of young people aged eight to eighty.

What makes it different?
Toxteth TV focuses upon increased access for under represented sections of the community, in particular those young people who have been or have felt excluded from mainstream education or have under achieved at school. In this way it will open up career paths to those who would not otherwise have access to the TV and media industries.

Where is it?
Toxteth TV Studio is one of a group of buildings along Windsor Street including the old Mission Hall and the Old Windsor School site. The Studio is located on the site of the Old Windsor Castle Pub.

The children who are all from Toxteth have started devising a play that will be perfomed in October.

Awards for All & Splendid Things are supporting this project.

As part of a series of community based film screenings, Tenantspin are proud to support the work of Toxteth TV.

Four groups of young people each worked with a different film maker to produce four unique films about the history of Toxteth. Featuring contributions from local people, historians Lawrence Westgaph and Steve Binns, politicians Michael Heseltine, Louise Ellman and Edwina Currie and singer Gerry Marsden. L8A provides a unique insight and exploration of events, buildings and people that have helped shape the area.

The films will be preceded by an introduction by Liverpool Historian Laurence Westgaph.

The Florrie

The Florence Institute was officially opened as a boys’ club in Mill Street, Toxteth, in 1890. Today the Florrie stands, derelict, but not forgotten. We meet the people whose lives were shaped by the Florrie. We examine its past and look forward to its future.

Little Jerusalem

Take a walk up Princes Road and you will see why it has been referred to as a ‘Walk of Faith’. Exploring St Nicholas’ Greek Orthodox Church, Princes Rd Synagogue and Al Rahma Mosque we see what sets them apart and what binds them together.

Now and Then

For some Toxteth is still defined by the events of 1981. How has it changed? Has it changed? We look at Toxteth today and explore the legacy of 1981.

Blackburne Place

What are the origins of Blackburne Place? Who was John Blackburne? What was his legacy? These are the questions posed in this film as we examine a street’s relationship with its past.

L8A provides a unique insight and exploration of key events, buildings and people that have helped shape the area. The Heritage Lottery Fund has supported the production of these films. Entry is free, but please book tickets in advance.
