This film about the Hope Street Feast event was made using a flipcam by Terry Rytz, one of Toxteth TV’s filmmakers and Community Reporters.

The Community Reporters Project is about training and communicating: encouraging people to shout about what is going on in their community or about what interests them; it’s about learning from each other and using the social media at our fingertips to make a difference.

Film Academy
Are you aged between eight and seventeen?

Are you interested in learning about all aspects of film making including
screen writing, storyboarding, operating a camera, recording audio, editing?

Would you like to be trained by a professional film maker?

Toxteth TV runs children’s and young people’s film academies. The best part
is they’re free.

The academies have made films ranging from drama to comedy and animation to
documentary.

The young people’s film academy, for young people aged 13-17 are making a
documentary about mental health at the moment, looking at perceptions,
misperceptions and attempting to get behind the taboos. This project is
being supported the Liverpool Primary Care Trust Foundation.

The children’s film academy, for children aged 8 – 12  is about to start
a new project.

Other projects include:

My Voice .My City.

Working with young people who are at risk of falling into crime this project
trains young people in all aspects of filmmaking including screenwriting,
camera use, audio recording, storyboarding and acting for camera. Supported
by the Home Office Community Fund, ‘My Voice .My City.’ attempts to give
young people a voice via film making.

Children’s Drama:

Working with local children aged seven to ten, who have already performed in
two productions since the summer. We are currently rehearsing a devised play
called ‘Outside the Circle. Children’s drama is supported by Awards for All.
It fun and its free.

In focus:

Aimed to adults aged 19 In focus trains them in film making, IT and
broadcast. This project will lead to five broadcasts in March by groups
ranging from those who have experienced homelessness to older people, from
local people to carers. This project is supported by the Government’s new
Transformation Fund for informal adult learning.

We will also be working with adults with learning difficulties using film
and broadcast as a training medium whilst exploring the issue of employment
for adults who have learning difficulties.

Graft & Glamour 2:

Having worked successfully with the Innovations Factory in 2009, Toxteth TV
will be collaborating once again to work with a group of young people from
Wigan who are at risk of exclusion. Training the young people in film making
they write, direct and film their own script working with professionals at
every stage of the production.

What is Toxteth TV?
We provide a Media production resource where young people aged can train alongside Professional Production Companies in a fully accessible facility in Windsor Street. The building houses a managed workspace in one half and the other is dedicated space for the provision of video production training and includes a full size and professionally equipped studio space.

Who is it for?
Training is aimed at young people who are at risk of disengagement from education and caters for school and college ages. The learning is delivered through exciting hands on video projects which aim to reengage young people into learning as well as providing an introduction to the skills needed to create short video programmes.

What will they be doing?
Film Academies operate out of school hours and in the school holidays for young people of all ages which introduce all aspects of media and creative film production including animation, flip cameras, studio and gallery equipment and editing. Call 01517096014 for details of upcoming FREE courses.

For 16-18 year olds there is a full time course that offers the same project based experience along with the opportunity to achieve a Level One Edexcel qualification in film and media production (starts September 2011)
