The Irish famine saw thousands of men, women and children arrive in Liverpool. For many it was a short stay as they travelled to the ‘new world’. Their stories are not forgotten; their voices can still be heard.

This film will be screened in the Maritime Museum throughout the summer until September.

This film will be part of an exhibition to be launched in Stavanger in 2008. As part of the ‘Youth and Migration’ project young people from all over Europe will gather in Norway to explore their diverse cultures.
The ‘Youth and Migration’ international project is supported by National Museums Liverpool and Liverpool Culture Company in collaboration with the ‘Norwegian Emigration Center’ in Stavanger.

‘In Focus’ has been supported by the Government’s new Transformation Fund for informal adult learning.

The young people have completed a screenplay and are in the process of rehearsing and increasing their technical film making knowledge ahead of filming.

Do you want the opportunity to train in all aspects of film making from pre production skills such as screen writing and storyboarding through to production skills like camera operation and sound recording to post production skills such as editing?

Toxteth TV will introduce children and young people to film making providing them not only with training but also most importantly allowing them to express themselves and have fun.

The summer school will take place between Tue 5th Aug to Tue 12th Aug (not incl Sat and Sun), working with a film maker and a youth worker and the best part is that it’s FREE. Toxteth TV believes in helping the future filmmakers of Liverpool get the best possible start.

This workshop was part of a series of ‘free to attend’ information and networking sessions intended to enhance employment potential that are being held across the region in the premises of independent media and digital companies.

The Northern Advantage is no ordinary training scheme but, underpinned with access to professional mentors, it will offer some of the best freelance media practitioners in the Northwest a collaborative and business enhanced approach to their personal development and working experience.

This activity is funded by the Skillset TV Freelance Fund and the Digital and Media Skills Programme, delivered by Northwest Vision and Media in partnership with Skillset, and supported by the North West Development Agency.

In the last two years we have installed two living roofs on two of the four buildings that we own and manage. The first one was installed on the Toxteth TV studio roof in April 07 and is a Green Roof. It has at least four different types of Sedums (drought resistant plants) and sits on recycled crushed brick and recycled foam. Not only does it benefit local biodiversity, it also benefits the building in that it prolongs the life of the roof by up to twenty years and provides insulation during the winter. Throughout the summer it provides an ambient temperature lessening the carbon footprint of the building. Furthermore it utilises rain water so there is far less water run off from the roof and less work for the drains to do.

We’ve installed a Brown Roof at John Archer Hall which is also a “living roof” but different to a green roof in that most of the plants and insect life are left to their own devices to colonise the roof with little input from ourselves only to add some wildflower seeds and a very small number of natural aquatic plants.

The living roof at John Archer Hall has full disabled access and will be used by other agencies such as Natural England, Mersey Forests and the North Merseyside Biodiversity Action Agency to educate and promote living roofs in the North West.

The Project received £24,942 funding from SITA Trust, through the Landfill Communities Fund. SITA Trust distributes funding through the Landfill Communities Fund.Funding is available for community and environmental improvement projects within ten miles of an active SITA UK landfill site. Since 1997 the Trust has allocated over £54m to hundreds of projects across the UK.

The Challenge came to an end on Friday 8th January with an event in Williamson Square to celebrate the million pound target of weight loss pledged being achieved.

As the official film makers of Liverpool’s Challenge Toxteth TV were there to record the celebrations.

Pictured is Beth Tweddle being interviewed about the campaign’s success.

The children aged eight to twelve devised and performed the play which features a parallel universe, a talking scarecrow and of course a golden carrot.

The story was devised and written by the children who then went on to learn the film making skills, both technical and artistic so as to turn their written words into film.
